Fissures Surgery

drimg

A surgical procedure on the internal anal sphincter to relieve tension by making a small cut in the muscle.

Purpose:

  • Treats chronic anal fissures (painful tears in the anal canal lining that fail to heal after 8 weeks).
  • Relieves tension and spasms that prevent healing by reducing blood flow.

Need for Surgery:

  • Chronic fissures that don’t heal with other treatments.
  • Surgery is recommended for about 40% of resistant cases.

LIS is a common procedure with a high success rate and low risk of complications.

Preparation:

  • Outpatient procedure; arrange transportation as anesthesia will affect driving.
  • General anesthesia is commonly used, but options can be discussed with your provider.
